From the shameless plug department

Wondering about those Intel Quad-cores? You know those things called Clovertowns (soon to be known as the 5300 series.) If you are not thinking about such things, you probably should be because multi-core is here for the second time. (get it).

For the last month or so I have been poking, prodding, and running two dual socket quad-core 1U nodes from Appro. That is 16 cores total. The nodes are connected by GigE and Mellanox Infiniband. So what did I find?

I really have too much to write-up at this point and more to do. I have, however, prepared a white paper for Appro/Intel entitled:

MPI Optimization Strategies for Intel Quad-core Xeon Processors

If you are attending SC06, stop by the Appro Booth (#1634) and ask for a copy. If you have questions or want to run some benchmarks of your own, I will be in the Appro Booth at the following times:

Monday Night: 7:00-9:00PM
Tuesday: 12:30-1:30PM and 4:00-5:00PM
Wednesday: 12:30-1:30PM and 4:00-5:00 PM
Thursday: 10:30-11:30AM

As usual I have beaten the NAS Parallel Suite to death, but have also found some interesting guidelines that should be helpful when using Intel multi-core. If you want to run a benchmark, bring a memory stick with your code during the times above. For further information, contact me directly.

I will also have more to say about quad-cores in the near future but I need to wait until after the SC frenzy subsides. And don't forget the BeoBash.
